Common and scientific names are also those of the Check-list, except that the common names of families are from the Clements taxonomy because the AOS list does not include them. This list is presented in the taxonomic sequence of the Check-list of North and Middle American Birds, 7th edition through the 62nd Supplement, published by the AOS. The total figure includes a number of species which are known only from sight records they are listed but not especially noted. Four species are known to be extinct, 68 are globally vulnerable or endangered, and three of the latter might also be extinct. Of the 1128 species, 102 are rare or accidental, 10 have been introduced by humans, 112 are endemic, and five more breed only in Mexico though their non-breeding range is larger. The 2021 revision of the American Ornithological Society's (AOS) Check-list of North and Middle American Birds added three more species due to splits. The avifauna of Mexico included a total of 1125 species as of June 2021, according to Bird Checklists of the World. This is a list of the bird species recorded in Mexico. The golden eagle is Mexico's national bird.
